Terence AuCoin (Terry)<\/strong> is a local Artist, born in Kingston Ontario. He has lived and traveled across Canada and mostly paints En Plein Air, which is a French expression meaning “in the open air”, and refers to the act of painting outdoors with the artist’s subject view; therefore creating what is known as an impressionist artwork.
Impressionists strongly emphasize the effects of light in their paintings; they use short, thick strokes of paint to capture the essence of the object rather than the subject’s details. Terry also combines long smooth strokes in his paintings like the background and foreground, sky and water, to enhance contrast with the subject.<\/p>\n

This technique of painting allows Terry to better depict the aforementioned, using the light to emphasize the vibrancy of colours. This method contrasts with studio painting or academic rules that might create apredetermined look sometimes called “realism”.
Terry tries to capture the concept of landscape portraiture by which he paints directly onto canvas from his palette; a concept he began in Powell River B.C.<\/p>\n
